The photography I enjoy requires a considerable amount of research before I go into the field. Most of my work in the field is done in what I call the "Terra Incognita" of the Colorado Plateau. These can be places of stillness, peace and beauty which can provide unique opportunities for creative photography. In the field I am looking for compositions that have a strong center of interest or unusual design and tell a story or invoke an emotional response. I strive for simplicity and clean backgrounds. Proper exposure and precise focus in the field are critical to be able to print large, sharp images. In the digital darkroom I am concerned with cleanliness, appropriate contrast, and color balance. I strive also to orchestrate the light to guide the viewer around the image. Prints made in my studio are done on the finest luster and canvas papers with archival inks on Epson printers. I carefully supervise any metal prints.
